My first day in Vienna-13.9.13

Yesterday, we came to Austria. We are staying in Vienna. Today, we visited these places:
St. Stephen's Cathedral, the Inner Ring tram, Hofburg Palace, Albertina Gallery, Parliament, the Volkspark and the Graben. We were busy!!
Bridget reading Teddy a story - Peppa Pig in Serbian!!

Our apartment was really close to St. Stephen's Cathedral, so we went there first. It was a really dark place inside but it still had lots of stained glass windows. Some of the patterns were amazing and I really like looking at the stained glass windows for ages.

Inside was really dark so it was hard to take photos

Outside the church

Next we got on a tram that goes around the ring of the inner city. We saw heaps of beautiful buildings  but when we got off the tram it was purring with rain so mum and dad decided to look for a cup of coffee. They had to change some money and mum asked the lady if she knew a good coffee shop near to where we were. The lady gave a suggestion and the name of the cafe was Heiner. In that cafe they served loads and loads of cake and the cake that I had was a lemon meringue cake!
It was so yummy!!! It was hard to choose, but I am glad I got this one!!!
Yummy cakes!!!

When we were full, we went to the Hofburg Palace. At the palace, there were lots of exhibits. One of them was one that Nanna especially would like and that was all the beautiful plates and cutlery. The plates I liked the most were the ones with the flowers on them. They had black backgrounds and flowers in the middle which looked beautiful.

A few other examples of he exhibits

Inside the palace, there were 1400 rooms but they only open 26 of them to look at because there would be too much work for all the cleaners to keep every single room clean! Her bedroom was massive and the dining room had heaps of seats at the table. There was also gold everywhere! You were not allowed to take pictures inside, so we bought some postcards and took photos of those!!Here they are:

When we were there, I thought of Harry and Isabelle and how much fun it would be to play and hide-and-seek in the palace. There would have been so many cool places to hide and I imagined it would have been heaps of fun!!

At rest time, the little ones went for a sleep and me and daddy went to the Albertina art gallery. We saw some incredible paintings that the artists actually did because at school I had only ever seen pictures! These ones were my favourites:
Monet

Can't remember who, but this one was my favourite of all!

Signet (something like that)

Picasso

Picasso

These were my favourites because of the way the artist painted it. They used really bright colours and also for many of them they used really big blobs and thick brush strokes. After looking around the gallery, we went outside and found a really famous sausage stall. We both had a sausage with cheese in it and it was delicious!!
My lunch!!!!

Cooking the different types of sausages
In the afternoon, we went for a walk back around the Hofburg and the Ringstrasse. We saw the Parliament, the Rathaus and then the Graben which is one of the streets in the massive mall. We also found a funny shop that made Pat laugh really loud:
For dinner, we had pasta cooked by mummy! It was really good and after a long day, we all went to bed really tired!!

  1. Clarey, your blogs just get better and better! What a big day you had. The palace sounded amazing and we're glad you went to the Art Gallery to see those fantastic pictures for real. We loved the photo of Bridget reading Peppa Pig in Serbian and of Paddy outside Pat's Brain Food. Speaking of food how good does all that yummy food sound. Grandpa is very jealous of you being in the cake shop and he was wishing he was with you. Keep enjoying yourselves - love G & G

  3. You are right about the beautiful plates - much of it is Limoge which Nana just loves!!
Just as well we are not with you with all those delicious cakes and food to choose from - it would be just too much.
Keep up the great work with your blog as we really enjoy reading it every day.
