Budapest, Hungary 9.9.13

Yesterday we arrived in Hungary. Actually, we came to Budapest. We settled into our apartment and it was beautiful. After we settled in, we went for a walk around the city centre close to where we were staying. The city looked amazing and the buildings were really tall and old.

We had a good nights sleep and that brought us to today! So today, we went to a few places. First of all, Mummy said that even though it was dark outside it would clear up and be sunny. But when we went out it started raining!! We went to a few places: the Budapest castle, St. Matthias Church, Fisherman's Bastion, a cool restaurant for lunch and last of all to collect the car.

We walked to the Metro and when we got off it was raining a medium amount, but it was freezing! I felt bad for mum because she only had shorts and a t-shirt on, but dad said she was too Dutch for her own good and should have taken a jumper! Not nice!! Then we went to St. Matthias Church in the old castle. It had my favourite thing in all the churches we have seen - amazing stained glass windows. The patterns were so beautiful.

All these things were in the castle. Mum and Dad said the castle used to be an old town where all the people lived inside the castle walls. Fisherman's Bastion was just near the church but: 1. you had to pay to take photos from there and 2. it was raining a lot now so we decided to go back to the apartment.

Anyway, the next thing we went to was eating lunch. Because we were all shivering, we went inside and ate hot chips and soup. It was good!! The restaurant had heaps of cool things on the wall and it was really Hungarian.

Next me and Dad went to get the car which we will be driving around the rest of the places that we are going to in Europe. The car looks like this:

Opel Zafira

That was our day! Tomorrow I think we are going for a drive in Hungary.

  1. You have to make sure you walk over the Charles and Elizabeth Bridges across the river. One side is Buda and the other is Pest. We have visited some of the places you did in Budapest - St Mattias' is a beautiful church. St Stephens in Pest is also amazing. You must try an ice cream in the square in Pest also [if it is warm enough!!!]. It will be good now that you have your car as it will be easier to get to places. Keep on having fun.

  2. We really liked the inside of the restaurant and we bet the chips and soup were really good and warmed you up. Fancy that beautiful church being inside a castle. It is hard to imagine. Your pictures of the stained glass are really good - we always find it hard to take good pictures inside churches. Let's hope the weather picks up for you as you head off in your car. love G & G
